SHORT STORIES

This week we studied about what is a short story and I would like to share with you a little of what I learned.

Short stories use the imagination to describe characters or short events that can be read quickly without stopping. These stories also mix real things and places to support the story or make it look more realistic.

It is important to remember that there are things that you need to include:

A plot: A plot is a series of events that form the story, give it the structure and sequence.

A point of view: It is the angle to tell the story, that is, in which person the story is being told (1st, 2nd, or 3rd person).

A conflict: situations or problems that characters face throughout the plot of the story.

A clear structure: It is necessary that there is a beginning, middle and end of the story so that the course of the events is understood, and the reader has clarity of the message or purpose of the story.

A climax: It is usually the twist that the story has, a point of return or resolution.

There are two types of short stories:

Realistic Stories: This type of story reflects the everyday in the life of ordinary people, that is, real-life events in fictional characters, emotions such as: falling in love, divorce, marriage, etc. They also include real places and situations that can happen to the reader.

Genre Stories: These types of stories have a category, for example: Science fiction, suspense, horror, magical realism, romance etc. These stories can refer to events of the past, present or future. In this type of stories, places and characters that do not exist are included.  Genre stories give the reader an escape from reality.

Both types have the purpose of following a line, they follow a rule creating a specific effect such as horror, suspense, emotion, etc.

The activity of the week was very entertaining because we talked about a book we had read, we recorded a video with the description of the book, the genre of the book and we shared it so that our classmates could see it and give their opinion.

Thank you so much for reading and watching, see you next week!
