PARAGRAPHS

 Welcome back to my blog!

PARAGRAPHS

This week I learned how to write paragraphs effectively. Paragraphs are groups of sentences that are related and contain one main idea. The purpose of paragraphs is to focus on a point, in other words, to develop an idea.

It is important to understand that the length of the paragraph depends on what the writer wants to communicate through the text, therefore the length of the paragraph may vary.

Part of the paragraphs:

TOPIC SENTENCE

It is the most general sentence of the paragraph, usually the first sentence and contains the main idea in a limited way.

 SUPPORTING SENTENCES

These sentences are important because they explain the main topic, contain data that support the main idea of the paragraph.

Support sentences may contain:

Facts: these are proofs that support the main idea.

Details: They can be more specific experiences of something or someone.

Examples: They can be personal or someone else's examples, and are written in order to prove a point.

Statistics: Numerical data that support the topic.

    CONCLUDING SENTENCE

Usually summarizes the main topic and is the last sentence of the paragraph. This may include suggestions, opinions and advice.

PRACTICE OF THE WEEK

The last thing I want to share with you is the homework for this week. It was about writing two paragraphs practicing the topic we studied during class.  Please check it out! Any comments or advice are welcome!

Thank you so much for reading! See you next week!
